Typhoon 23 * TOKAGE * in Japan
October 20, 2004
This one really dumped its full load on Japan. There is nothing more to mutter but this at night in the dark, trying to decide where to run for shelter as nature lashes out on the earth as if this was the final eternal punishment.
wind and rain
rain and wind
wind and rain
。。 。。 。。 Wind und Regen
。。 。。 。。 Regen und Wind
。。 。。 。。 Wind und Regen
Fallen trees in the local shrine, Ichi-no-Miya
typhoon tokage -
even the weeds
are fallen
……… Taifun Tokage -
……… selbst das Unkraut
……… liegt flach
Trees uprooted at Lake Asahi, just like a pack of matches out of the box
after Tokage
old cedars lying down
in the temple ground
Here is a little more of the evening of this great typhoon:

The next day, I ventured out on foot:
old Shinto shrine -
amongst cedar trees
too many leaves fallen
。。 。。 。。 small country roads -
。。 。。 。。 too few hands to sweep away
。。 。。 。。 the last typhoon

Here are some more things I saw on the way in the rural neighbourhood:
torrential rain
carps are drowning
in the floods
typhoon rains
the fields turnd swamps
all down the valley
(more than half of the old trees are down, as we saw in the picture above ...)
after Tokage
half the mountain forest
slipped away
.......... typhoon over
.......... bright sunshine hitting
.......... debris everywhere
typhoon gone –
the buckwheat filed
turnd swamp
.......... typhoon survived
.......... Grandpa Saburoo weeping
.......... in his lost fields
.......... typhoon survived
.......... Grandma Kazuko
.......... just shaking her head
There is so much more damage 。。。。。

Three days later by car:
I ventured out by car, passing the small roads whith trees all over cut and thrown alongside, all fallen down and uprooted by the typhoon. Many landslides were just pushed aside to get one car through the muddy ground. The local irrigation pond was filled to the brink with muddy green-brown water, and yet our two village pets were here unharmed and seemed to give me courage to get on with life.
muddy pond -
two swans afloat
in silent circles
.......... trueber Teich -
.......... zwei Schwaene gleiten
.......... in ruhigen Kreisen
More pictures of the typhoon are here, Nr. 18 to 24.

Hi Gabi
Thank you for letting us look at everything...
It's always so sad seeing all the devastation that's created by these typhoons.
