Another version :

taking a rest
in the silken chamber -
the prince and the calla

Here is what I had in mind when I saw my prince in the chamber:

Four thousand six hundred and twenty-three years ago the heavens were out of repair. So the Goddess of Works set to work and prepared 36,501 blocks of precious jade, each 240 feet square by 120 feet in depth. Of these, however, she only used 36,500, and cast aside the single remaining block upon one of the celestial peaks.

This stone, under the process of preparation, had become as it were spiritualised. It could expand or contract. It could move. It was conscious of the existence of an eternal world, and it was hurt at not having been called upon to accomplish its divine mission.

One day a Buddhist and a Taoist priest, who happened to be passing that way, sat down for a while to rest, and noticed the disconsolate stone which lay there, no bigger than the pendant of a lady's fan .....

Flowers fade and fly,
and flying fill the sky;
Their bloom departs, their perfume gone,
yet who stands pitying by?

The peach-tree and the plum-tree too
next year may bloom again,
But next year, in the inner rooms,
tell me, shall I remain?

Thus begins a wonderful story of Old China

Calla, カラー
kigo for early summer
"sweet potato of the sea" kaiu, kai-u 海芋(かいう)
Her form seems to ressemble that of a sweet potato. It is a very elegant and beautiful flower image for haiku.

Zantedeschia is a genus of twenty-eight species of herbaceous flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa from South Africa north to Malawi. The name of the genus was given as a tribute to Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedeschi (1773-1846) by the German botanist Kurt Sprengel (1766 - 1833). Common names include Arum lily for Z. aethiopica, calla, and calla lily for Z. elliottiana and Z. rehmannii although it is neither a true lily (Liliaceae), nor Arum or Calla (related genera in Araceae).
It is also often erroneously spelled as "cala lily".

The story goes on in November 2005:

The Frog, well for the Japanese it reminds most of the good old Edo period, the Hut of Basho and the quietude of the old pond.

For many Europeans the mention of a frog first reminds us of the tale of the frog being kissed and then changing to a beautiful prince.

To this, Origa responded:

Gabi san, your frog in the calla lily is adorable! :)))

And what a coincidence: we have just had a Basho-ki haiku writing in my Live Journal, and some of the haiku were written on the theme of a Prince-frog (or, in Russian version, it's a Princess-frog, Tsarevna-lyagushka)!

Please take a look at all the haiku for Basho-ki, here:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/origa/74925.html?nc=129

They are
all bilingual, so that all of you can read all haiku :)

And this is a very lovely haiku by Kilmeny, contributed our our haiku
writing -- about the Princess frog :)))

Gabi, this frog is adorable. I wish I had such a prince on my desk.
Although all the images are beautiful, I think the third image (small one) is the most appealing if you were to make a single haiga.

Dear K. san,
the last one is not very sharp, since Karl was on his way out and the camera moving...
I also like the last one best.

Thanks for your suggestions.

The distribution of frogs ranges from tropic to subarctic regions, but most species are found in tropical rainforests.
Consisting of more than 5,000 species described, they are among the most diverse groups of vertebrates. However, populations of certain frog species are declining significantly.
